Ivan the Terrible and Jesus

Have you heard about Ivan the Terrible? He was a delightful Russian king. Did you know that he secretly worshipped Cronus aka Saturn - the god who ate his own children? Ivan shows us clearly that you become like the god you follow. Ivan tortured and murdered thousands of his own people. His life was drenched in innocent blood. Hendrik Witbooi – Inspiring Soldier

Theme

In his famous sermon on the mount, Jesus calls his disciples to live in a radically new way. He challenges all his followers to love their enemies. This can be very difficult for sinful human beings who are prone to hatred, idolatry and evil thoughts. Hendrik Witbooi was a black African general who loved his enemies. He treated his German enemies with amazing mercy when they were destroying Hendrik's tribe. He loved his enemies in a war zone.

First Genocide of the 20th century and Image of God

One of the most striking and disturbing consequences of rejecting the biblical teaching of the Image of God is provided by the chilling story of General Lothar von Trotha (1848-1920). In 1904 he ordered the total extermination of the Herero tribe in South-West Africa. This was the first genocide of the 20th century.

Writing in 1904, he stated:

Storkey and the failure of militarism

At a recent LifeMatters event Alan Storkey was very critical of American and British foreign policy. He argued that American politicians have been 'patsies' for the weapons industry for a long time. In particular the Bush family has many connections with the big weapons companies. Obviously the profits are huge.

What do we think about this?

Here is some stuff I've dug up.
