Iron Sharpens Iron – May 2022 – Welcome Café

Knife and sharpening steel

Event Date:

May 27, 2022

Event Time:

8:00 pm

Event Location:

Online, via Zoom

The Welcome Café is a missional community. It was established in Burmantofts as an outreach programme of the Bridge Community Church in Leeds. It reaches out to alcoholics, drug addicts and all kinds of non-Christian people. It has seen people come to faith and there are many other encouraging advances of God’s kingdom in this deprived part of Leeds.

This Iron Sharpens Iron meeting will hear from Mark Yeadon and Mark Roques who are involved in this work. They are also writing a Grove booklet about the Welcome Café which will explore how Herman Dooyweeerd’s modal aspect theory can really help us in discipleship and evangelism.

Mark Yeadon is a Chartered patent attorney, director of a small boutique Intellectual Property (IP) firm. He leads the Teen Challenge (UK) Leeds branch which includes a Saturday ministry at The Welcome café, Lincoln Green Square, Leeds.

Mark Roques is a lively storyteller and the author of four books, including The Spy, the Rat and the Bed of Nails: Creative Ways of Talking about Christian Faith. Formerly a Philosophy and Religious Education teacher in Bath, his work is focused on storytelling and how this can help us to communicate the Christian faith. He has written many articles for the Baptist Times, RE Today, Youthscape, Direction magazine and the Christian Teachers Journal.

Iron Sharpens Iron is all about sharpening up as a disciple of Jesus Christ. We are inspired by Proverbs 27:17,

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Iron Sharpens Iron is completely free and open to anyone, although we invite you to donate towards our work (with a suggestion of £5 per event). If you wish to donate an amount not given below, or set up a regular donation, you can donate online (opens in a new tab),

Each event starts at 8pm when our speaker presents a short talk, and then we discuss the topic in hand. We want everyone to contribute to the discussion. We encourage heated debate. We want to learn from each other so we can bear fruit for Jesus Christ, the Lord of heaven and earth. Join at 7.50pm to chat with other participants.

Meetings take place on Zoom. The invitation link and meeting details will be in your order confirmation emails which will be sent to you when you complete checkout of your order. If they do not arrive within a few minutes then please check your promotions, clutter, ‘other’, spam or junk folders (you may have multiple of these depending on your email provider) as order confirmations often get intercepted.
