Seeking a Reformational perspective on the work of Iain McGilchrist
Richard Betts (publishing as Richard Valentine) is the author of “The Global Origins of Psychology: Neurology, Language and Culture in the Ancient World”, published last year with Routledge, and of a sequel now in press. Taking the long view afforded by Christian thought including the resources of Reformational philosophy, Richard’s writing offers in turn affirmation, critique and reappraisal of a wide range of thinkers. In what promises to be a fascinating session, he will outline the left/right-brain model of cognitive function and societal organisation developed by Iain McGilchrist (e.g. in the 2009 book The Master and His Emissary) and help us connect it to Christian thinking and living.
Iron Sharpens Iron is all about sharpening up as a disciple of Jesus Christ. We are inspired by Proverbs 27:17,
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Each event starts at 8pm when our guest is interviewed or presents a short talk, after which we have time for discussion. We want everyone to ask questions. We encourage heated debate in Christian spirit! We want to learn from each other so we can bear fruit for Jesus Christ, the Lord of heaven and earth. Join at 7.50pm to chat with other participants.
