How might Christian faith shape economic policy? One influential and controversial answer to this question came from Brian Griffiths, who was professor of Banking and International Finance at City University before being invited by Margaret Thatcher to lead her ‘Policy Unit’ at No. 10 in the 1980s.
Whatever views we may hold on the policies he championed, we are assured of an enlightening discussion and a gracious response on his part to our questions.
Brian sits in the House of Lords as Lord Griffiths of Fforest-Fach and, with his wife, Rachel, has run a prayer group there for many years. He delivered the 2011 Niblett Memorial Lecture at Sarum College on “A Christian Reflection on the Financial Crisis”. And his warning in October 2021 about persistent inflation now makes for salutary reading.
Iron Sharpens Iron is all about sharpening up as a disciple of Jesus Christ. We are inspired by Proverbs 27:17,
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
